The Challenge

Ravi came to the table with a piece already in motion — Unshakable's social media presence was up and running. What the publisher needed wasn't a full campaign build from scratch, but a focused hand on outreach: getting the book in front of the readers, reviewers, and platforms that would actually move it, without duplicating work already being done on the social side.

The Approach & Process

Working within an existing campaign meant the outreach had to complement, not compete with, what was already live:

  1. Identified outreach channels and contacts suited to the self-help/self-care niche specifically reviewers, newsletters, and communities built around personal development and wellness readers

  2. Coordinated outreach messaging so it aligned with the tone and positioning already established on the book's social channels, rather than introducing a disconnected voice

  3. Managed the outreach as a standalone workstream the publisher could plug into their broader launch effort

  4. Went beyond reviewer/newsletter outreach into practitioner-level placement reaching people who work directly with the audience the book was written for

Tools & Strategies

  • Niche outreach targeting self-help/wellness reviewers, newsletters, and communities

  • Voice-matched messaging aligned to the existing social campaign

  • Practitioner outreach — connecting the book with people who work hands-on with its target readers, not just people who write about books

The Results

  • 29 reviews

  • Placed with a yoga retreat, whose owner began recommending the book to clients

  • A psychologist began using the book with her patients

  • The book moved from "read and reviewed" to actively used as a tool by people whose work depends on what actually helps their clients

Reflection

Twenty-nine reviews doesn't capture what this campaign actually did. A yoga retreat owner recommending it to clients and a psychologist incorporating it into patient work is a different kind of validation than a star rating — it's practitioners staking their own credibility on the book being genuinely useful, not just well-marketed. For a self-help book specifically, that's the outcome that matters most: not that people read it once, but that people whose job is helping others decided it was worth putting in front of the people they help.
